What Is Breast Revision?

Breast revision is a cosmetic procedure for patients who are dissatisfied with the current results of a previous cosmetic breast procedure. It works as a means to correct errors or restore the appearance of the breasts so that patients can once again fully enjoy their results. In some cases, a prior surgeon may have made errors or caused outcomes that did not align with a patient’s expectations. A breast revision procedure addresses these concerns by making corrections or adjustments to better align your appearance with how you want to look.

Is Breast Revision Right for Me?

Breast revision can prove the ideal solution for most patients who are dissatisfied with one or more elements of a previous breast procedure. This can range from cosmetic concerns to discomfort or health issues caused by the previous surgery. The procedure is open to a wide range of patients, though being in current good health is important for a safe and productive experience. To learn if breast revision is right for you, the first step is to book your consultation with the breast surgeon at the Leyngold Institute for Plastic Surgery. Our specialist will meet with you personally for a complete investigation into your situation, working with you to explore your procedure options.

Procedure Overview

For most patients, a breast revision procedure will be similar in many ways to your previous breast surgery. However, the surgery often requires a few extra steps, such as correcting poorly healed tissues, removing previous implants, or addressing subdermal scarring. Overall, the procedure can last about 1 to 3 hours in most cases. Patients typically receive general anesthesia for the duration, ensuring a pain-free experience. Some procedures may be performed while awake, with only local anesthesia, but this is reserved for milder cases.

During the procedure, your surgeon will move step-by-step along your agreed-upon procedure plan. The process is only complete once your surgeon is sure the results will match expectations. Also, breast revision is almost always an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day as your surgery. However, patients will need to plan ahead for someone to drive them home.

What Is the Recovery Like for Breast Revision?

The timeline and experience of recovery for breast revision will likely also be similar to your previous breast surgery. Patients can expect about 2 weeks of initial downtime, though this may be more or less depending on the complexity of the surgery. Patients can facilitate a smooth recovery by following all of their surgeon’s post-procedure instructions, with a focus on avoiding any strenuous activity. Bruising, discomfort, and swelling are all normal, and they gradually fade as patients rest and recover. If you run into any concerns or have additional questions, our staff will be glad to help you. Your surgeon will also see you for follow-up appointments to check your recovery and ensure your results turn out how you imagined.

When Can I See the Results?

While the changes to the breasts may be immediately visible, patients can expect to see the positives of their results within about 2 weeks. The swelling and bruising will first need to subside. Final results are visible several weeks later once the residual swelling has faded and the breast tissues have settled into their new position. Remember, the key to seeing optimal results is to give your body the rest and care it needs while recovering.
